Sustainability appears to have come on its own: green design is accepted, embraced and even preferred in most building projects- the construction industry has been changing quickly and buildings that were at the leading edge in terms of sustainability just a few years ago are now more standard. Increasing energy code stringency and market demand creates a challenging task for design teams to deliver innovative solutions to traditional architecture. As a result, buildings are becoming more intelligent.
In Europe and America, buildings consume around 40 percent of all energy – around 10 percent more than transport and create the same proportion of carbon dioxide emissions. This forced governments of the countries to increase energy code stringency implementing new building design standards as LEED, BREEM or Net Zero Energy Building (nZEB’s).
